William was Arthur’s elder brother, and he was baptised in All Saints Mackworth on the 5th August 1888. Again his military record is not available but on his return he married Ethel Langton in 1919. William died on the 27th September 1965, and like his brother is buried in All Saints Churchyard.
It is strange that from farming stock, both the Abel brother both became successful bankers. The edition of the Derby Daily Telegraph for the 28th July 1932 reports:
MR. ARTHUR ABEL NEW POST FOR A DERBYSHIRE OFFICIAL
Mr. Arthur Abel, formerly of Etwall and Markeaton, was to-day appointed by Durham County Council Deputy County Accountant, with a salary of £1,000 a year.
By 1939, William Abel was manager of the Irongate Branch of the Westminster Bank at Derby,
